What is Engineering Village?

Engineering Village is a platform that enables in-depth search and discovery of both current, archival and interdisciplinary content comprising research and technical information in the applied engineering and physical science domains.

What will you be doing?

• Work on a product that helps to improve the world of scientific research
• Develop data-driven software solutions, rest APIs, and microservices for backend content processing and analysis
• Work with the team, define, write, and review efficient code based on feature specifications
• Develop and run functional, regression, and load testing
• Work with the team members, product owner, and other personnel in shaping a product roadmap
• Communicate complex technical concepts to product owners and teams with various backgrounds
• Assist team leader to document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, diagrams, charts, and code comments
• Ensure coding best practices and test coverage through peer reviewing

What experience are we looking for?

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of related experience crafting large-scale, highly available services in AWS utilizing various database and messaging technologies.
• Strong programming skills in the Java Enterprise stack (Java, Spring Boot, Apache Tomcat, Java Servlet, JDBC, etc.)
• Strong knowledge of SQL & NoSQL databases (OracleDB, ElasticSearch, DynamoDB, Redis, …etc.)
• Experience with monitoring distributed systems (e.g. using New Relic, Grafana, Prometheus, ..etc.).
• Strong grasp of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, databases, etc.).
• An ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Champion cross-team projects
• Coach and mentor other specialists on the team to ensure that all software utilizes industry best practices for data persistence.
• Collaborate efficiently with product management, technical program management, operations and other engineering teams to capture requirements, drive implementation and provide transparency.
• A broad perspective on problem-solving.
• Strong communication skills and a desire to share your knowledge with team members and others at Elsevier.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience deploying and scaling within a cloud infrastructure.
• Experience directly managing and mentoring a team.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Good DevOps skills (e.g. using Jenkins, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Puppet, …etc.)
• Good experience in different programming languages (Node.JS, Python, Bash, …)
